About Us
Hell's Half Acre began in the late 1930s as a few chutes constructed by the Mad Plume brothers. Agnes (Chewing-BlackBones) Mad Plume, who owned many horses, had her sons—Edward "Shorty," Frank, and Lawrence “Hi-Sue”—working together to break them. One day, Shorty and Frank had a disagreement and decided to settle it with a bet: each would ride two horses, and whoever stayed on the longest would win. Although the story differs on who actually won, this wager ultimately led to the creation of Hell's Half Acre.
